WP1 articulates knowledge on forest ecosystem functioning to develop innovative tools to simulate ecosystem dynamics under natural influence. The emphasis will be on the exchange and synthesis of approaches to estimate the potential supply of wood and non-wood products as well as ecosystem services under biotic and abiotic risk in climate change scenarios. For that purpose it will build from the expertise and experience of beneficiaries and partners in the SuFoRUn network, namely in research and outreach in growth modelling, wood properties, non-wood forest products, disturbances and simulators. The consolidation of this first SuFoRUn interdisciplinary knowledge pillar will be influential to improve the understanding of forest ecosystem dynamics, to define management regimes that may better cope with risk and climate change and to enhance the projection and quantification of ecosystem services.
WP1 will encompass the exchange and analysis of approaches to estimate the potential supply of wood and non-wood products as well as ecosystem services under biotic and abiotic risk in climate change scenarios, it will further study the impacts of climate change and disturbances on the provision of different ecosystem services and will propose restoration/adaptation measures.
